PPBM's Armada never existed, claim former members

PUTRAJAYA: Three former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) members have claimed that the party’s constitution does not provide for the creation of its Armada wing.

The trio, led by sacked Armada executive council member Muhammad Syazwan Ahmad Zainal, said this meant that PPBM’s Armada, or Youth wing, never formally existed.

Syazwan said he learnt this after going to the Registry of Societies (RoS) to check his status as a member after he was sacked by PPBM Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

He said according to the RoS, Armada, which stands for Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda, was never mentioned in the party’s constitution.

“This means that PPBM is invalid as it going is against its own constitution. This is considered as the (party’s) biggest scam.

“Our efforts have gone to waste because the wing never existed,” Syazwan told reporters after lodging a report to RoS over Armada’s alleged non-existence here today.

Syazwan, along with Wahazir Abd Wahabi and Mohamad Taufik Abas, were recently sacked by Syed Saddiq over alleged disciplinary issues.

Syazwan also questioned the validity of the dismissals.

“The sacking never happened because Armada was never there. In fact, Syed Saddiq is not even the Armada chief.”

Syazwan said PPBM’s constitution only provided for the creation of the Wanita (Women’s), Pemuda (Youth) and Srikandi wings.

“So, technically, we are Pemuda and not Armada,” said Syazwan, who also submitted several documents to the RoS, including letters, police reports and Armada appointment letters.

Syazwan also challenged Syed Saddiq to prove the existence of Armada.

“I urge RoS and police to investigate the matter and bring the offenders to justice,” he said.

Wahazir, meanwhile, accused PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad of being manipulative, and urged other Armada members to quit the party.

“How could a leader, who ruled the country for 22 years, not know anything about the constitution? He only wants to manipulate young people,” he claimed.

The situation became tense when PPBM Armada information chief Ulya Aqamah Husamudin came forward to provide an explanation.

Ulya claimed that the party had submitted to the RoS an amended party constitution, which included provisions for the Armada wing.

He said although the amended constitution was not yet approved by the RoS, Armada’s establishment was already endorsed by PPBM’s supreme council.

Syazwan later questioned Ulya’s statement before the latter left the press conference.
