Impossible for PAN to work with Pas

ALOR STAR: It is almost impossible for any opposition party to work with Pas due to the Islamic party's hardline approaches, to the extend of labelling those who do not share their views as 'kafir'.

Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) president Mohamad Sabu took the opportunity at the opening of the party convention today to hit back at Pas for running down the party he leads.

Mohamad or popularly known as Mat Sabu took a swipe at Pas for taking hard line approaches in both politics and pursuing their version of Islamic struggles.

Describing such an act as a shallow politics, Mohamad, who had spent 38 years with Pas before forming PAN two years ago said, such approach did not reflect the true teachings of Islam.

He later urged the voters not to waste their vote for Pas as the party is unlikely to have the numbers to form the federal government in GE14.

"The rakyat are left with only two choices, support Pakatan Harapan and oppose Barisan Nasional or the other way around.

"However, being a democratic country, other parties are welcomed to contest but it is high chances that the rakyat will abandon them (Pas)," he said in his opening speech.

Present were Pakatan Harapan pro-tem chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, its pro-tem president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also PKR president, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir who is also Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman conceded to the fact that Pakatan Harapan will be facing a three-cornered fight with BN and Pas in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Describing the Islamic party as an 'oudated' party, he chided Pas leadership for unable to make a firm decision on its stand.

"Pas just simply could not make up its mind.. they wish to join Pakatan Harapan but they only want to work with two of parties and refused to have anything with the other two parties.

"It seems that they do not have a stand but I believe the party may end up joining Umno," he told a press conference after the opening ceremony.

On a similar note, Dr Mahathir said ideology differences among the Pakatan Harapan components is immaterial for as long as the pact put up a united front.

In his war cry for the GE14, the former premier called for his former political nemesis-turned-ally to set aside their ideology differences.

"There is no differences among the parties in Pakatan Harapan, we are working closely at this convention or in rallies," he told a press conference after the opening ceremony.
