DAP branch chairman calls on Guan Eng to resign

SEPANG: A DAP branch chairman has urged Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to resign from his various positions in the party, as he is now a liability to it.

In a press conference today, Taman Murni DAP branch chairman A. Thirumalvalavan said Lim Kit Siang and son Guan Eng should stop wasting the people's time and money.

"Guan Eng is not qualified to contest in the Central Executive Committee (CEC) re-election, as he has a few ongoing court cases.

“If other members were going through the same situation (with ongoing court cases), I am sure that they would receive warning letters and not be allowed to contest in the CEC.

“(So) is this fair?" he asked.

Thirumal said both father and son are treating the party as if it's their family’s party.

"They talk a lot about democracy, but in the party itself, they do not practise what they preach. There is no democracy in the party," he said.

Thirumal added that whenever party members ask questions, they never receive answers.

"The top level in this party is never transparent with its members, and we are unhappy about it," he said.

Thirumal said DAP’s grassroots members are rejecting the special CEC.

"DAP grassroots members and delegates want the party to hold its CEC re-election at a national congress and not during a special congress this Nov 12," he added.

It was reported on Oct 9 that Guan Eng announced that fresh polls for the party's CEC would be held on Nov 12 at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) in Shah Alam.
