Guan Eng hopes for no more CEC re-election after today's

SHAH ALAM: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng is hoping this will be the last Central Executive Committee (CEC) re-election the party will have to go through before the 14th General Election (GE14).

In his policy speech during DAP Special Congress this morning, Lim said: "There is no political party in Malaysia that is forced to carry out election three times and forced to use the same list of delegates.

"It is like we are frozen since the last CEC election.

"(I thought) This only happens in Hollywood films, but now it is happening in Malaysia." he said.

Lim said he hoped that after today's voting, the Registrar of Societies (RoS) would not ask the party to conduct another re-election.

"They might be hoping for it, so that the GE14 result will remain the same, so that the PM can continue to be PM forever," he said at the Ideal Convention Centre in Section 15 here.

The special congress, which started at 10am, saw attendance of 1,356 DAP delegates out of a total of 2,514 or 53.94 per cent.

List of delegates from DAP CEC election in 2012 saw a total of 2,576 delegates, of which 62 have either passed away, resigned from the party, or declared bankcrupt.

Lim pointed out that the party had no choice but to heed to RoS' order, adding that the decision was made so that the party would retain its rocket symbol in the upcoming GE14.

He said the party's second re-election since 2012, expected to be concluded by 6pm today, would be verified by RoS-approved auditor Grand Thornton.

"There is no excuse for RoS to cause more trouble for us. They have to let us continue operating as a valid party.

"I hope there won't be anyone who purposely try to test our patience, because if we are pushed further, we will fight with all our might."
