Opposition in complete disarray, unable to help rakyat: PM

PEKAN: Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak today said that the opposition is unable to help the rakyat as it is in a state of disarray.

The Prime Minister said that in contrast, Umno clearly has the people's interests at heart.

"We see the opposition in a state of 'kucalana' (disarray). But, let them be.

"It is Umno which is always strong and giving service to the people," he said when launching the national-level ‘Umno Bantu Rakyat 2.0' programme in Kampung Tanjung Medang here.

Najib said that the party's strength is derived from its closeness to grassroots supporters over the past 70 years.

"The party has contributed significantly, throughout the history of the country. Umno is seen as a party that remains relevant in each era.

"Today, the result can be seen in (Malaysia's) Gross Domestic Product growth of 6.2 per cent (in the third quarter of this year), announced on Friday," he said.

Najib added that Umno's commitment to helping the people can also be seen in the seven million 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) recipients, who include fishermen, Felda settlers, government servants, single mothers and the disabled (OKU), among others.

He also pointed out that the Umno Welfare Bureau (Bikum), which spearheaded Sunday’s programme, is one of the means through which the party reaches out to those in need, wherever they are in the country.

Later in the day, the Prime Minister undertook a walkabout at housing areas here, as a motorcycle convoy of Umno Youth members ferried aid supplies to needy residents.
