Pairin wants PBS to unite and continue struggle

PENAMPANG: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) founding father called on all party members to keep the team spirit going, regardless of any setbacks the party may face.

In giving a short speech, president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan had only one objective in mind and that was to encourage other leaders and members within the party.

“We must stand united and continue to be in high spirits in our struggle. This is very important to overcome obstacles.

“If we are divided, the party will collapse. Let us work to ensure PBS continue to be successful. I call on all members to unite,” he said.

Pairin was speaking to about 600 members at the launching of the party’s annual delegate conference at the Kadazandusun Cultural Association Building here on Sunday.

In the event, delegates stood up and raised their fists, chorusing the party slogan “Bersatu” (united) in support of the Huguan Siou (Kadazandusun paramount leader).

Earlier, PBS secretary general Datuk Johnny Mositun called on youth members to remain with the party’s struggle and to give their best.

“The young people are the party’s assets as they are the future successors. It is our hope that they will continue to look after the party’s image and the struggles led by Tan Sri (Pairin) since the establishment of PBS.

“We will have more responsibility for the upcoming election and we need to intensify our effort. We must ask ourselves what we can do for the party and not the other way,” he said.

Mositun said party members should act as musketeers and work as a strong team to ensure PBS’ victory in 13 seats, including winning back six seats it had lost to the opposition.

“I call on all members to support the candidates, who will be contesting in these 13 areas, and ensure a big victory. I have gone to the ground and inspected the preparation…we are prepared (to fight),” he said.
