Opposition can't fulfil promises: Khairy

KUALA LUMPUR: It is easier for opposition parties to make “promises” without having a track record to substantiate them.

Barisan Nasional Youth chairman Khairy Jamaluddin said although some opposition parties are leading the administration of a few states, their scope of responsibilities and experience could not be compared with helming the federal government.

“As opposition parties, they do not have to prove anything. Yes, they are ruling some states. But leading a federal government is an entirely different scale.

“Federal government has to look after the security of the country, the people, health, education and many other matters.

“But the opposition’s task is easy, which is to make promises that they don’t intend to keep,” he said when opening MyPPP Youth general assembly at Wisma Felcra here today.

The Umno Youth chief also called for BN components’ youth wings to engage with young voters following the immense segment of six million youths, representing 46.6 per cent of total voters in the upcoming 14th general election (GE14).

Khairy also reminded the audience that GE14 would be the most important election for the country and its future, adding that the opposition should not be underestimated.

Describing GE14 as a “very competitive” election, Khairy urged BN members to prove to the public their commitment to meet the people’s interests.

“I am sure that despite promises made by the opposition, the people can evaluate for themselves by comparing what the opposition is offering and what we have delivered all this while.

“I am confident that Malaysians will once again give the mandate to BN, but we must remember that this mandate will not come easy.

“We must convince the public that BN is still the best choice for their future. We must work hard and do not make populist promises.”
