Past Umno Youth members an improtant asset for party to remain relevant

KUALA LUMPUR: Former UMNO Youth members form an important asset to the party because their contribution was truly significant to ensure that the party remained relevant until today, said UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Ahmad Zahid, who is discharging the duty of the UMNO deputy president, said in order to preserve the party’s survival, former UMNO Youth members were asked to put aside the sentiments of ‘assabiah’ or fanatical ideology and ‘kabilah’ or cliquish tendency and to pass the knowledge available to the young leaders.

He said this when officiating the Former Youth Meeting here last night, which was also attended by UMNO vice-president cum Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid said that such gatherings should be widened to the former Youth leaders within the Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties which would also spread the feeling of togetherness among them.

Hishammuddin, in his brief speech, called on past Youth members to share their experiences with the young people and to close ranks to help the BN candidates to win in the coming general election.

The informal event, held in conjunction with the 2017 UMNO General Assembly, was aimed at rekindling the ties among comrades in the party, with the first held during the party’s general assembly in 2014.
