Puteri pledges to be at forefront to tackle slander, enhance support among voters

KUALA LUMPUR: Puteri Umno has pledged to be at the forefront to tackle slanderous accusations thrown against the Barisan Nasional backbone.

The junior wing of Umno said it was also committed in garnering the necessary support from voters to aid Barisan Nasional (BN) in its quest to achieve a landslide victory in the 14th General Election.

Its chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the biggest challenge Umno currently faces is to counter misperceptions spread by the opposition.

"The president had given us the direction on the party's preparation for the upcoming general election.

"Puteri will continue with our efforts to look for voters, especially the young ones.

"We will also continue with our Puteri Peduli programme and combat false accusations thrown against the party," she said.

Mas Ermieyati said this was also in line with the party president's call for Umno stalwarts to consolidate their strength to form a formidable force to fight off the opposition.

The wing, she added would also fully utilise the remaining period of time left before the parliament is dissolved, to explain the party's success stories.

"There is ample time for me and my girls to go to the ground and explain to the people what Barisan Nasional had achieved.

"We will also meet with voters to set right (negative) perception which is the biggest challenge we face now," she added.

Mas Emieyati also reiterated the wing's pledge that it would not sulk if party leadership decided not to allocate any seats to its candidates.

"We will leave it to the party's president to decide on the best candidates since this is the most important general election," she added.
