Puteri's 'pink soldiers' gear up for GE14

KUALA LUMPUR: The "pink soldiers" are gearing up for battle, with thousands of Puteri Umno members equipped with Information Technology (IT) training ahead of the 14th General Election.

Puteri chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the wing has established a team consisting of IT engineers and call centre staff to address inquiries by the public.

She said Puteri is targeting women aged 40 and below, especially those about to vote for the first time.

"We are deploying around 65,000 election machinery personnel through Jalinan Rakyat Plus, along with Wanita Umno and Youth members nationwide."

She also noted that while Islam holds women in high regard, there are still quarters who trivialise the role played by the fairer sex.

"Women voters made up 50.23 per cent of voters in the last general election.

"As at September, voters aged 40 and below represent 40 per cent of the voting population.

"The voices of youth must be heard by fielding winnable, likeable, workable and capable candidates in the GE," she said in her winding-up speech at the 71st Umno General Assembly today.

She said Umno in general has always been the protector of the Malays and Malaysians, in line with "Mentaliti Negaraku".

On the Palestine-Israel conflict, Mas Ermieyati said Puteri Umno is rallying behind Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak over the opposition to recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
