KUALA LUMPUR: Umno members must be ready for last-minute attacks by the Opposition which might influence persuadable or on-the-fence voters.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is carrying out the duties of the party deputy president, said the opposition is capable of trapping Umno with such attacks, as it is part of their strategy.
Zahid said the Umno election machinery must be ready to counter the Opposition’s lies and slanders and to use social media for that purpose.
“Umno must not be complacent if we face more than two-cornered fights as some areas may not benefit Barisan Nasional. The party must be strengthened inside out, and not depend solely on external factors," he said in his winding-up speech at the Umno General Assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre today.
Zahid said Umno members must also refrain from attacking each other especially on polling day. Umno members, he said, must work as a team and move confidently as they are on the right path.
