Dr M cannot escape from past misdeeds

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad cannot run away from his past misdeeds said Gerakan.

Party vice-president Datuk Dominic Lau said Dr Mahathir could not ignore his past misdeeds with the passage of time, notably the latter's iron-fisted rule as prime minister for 22 years.

"Wrong is wrong, and the guilty should be held responsible for the act.

"Be it five, 10, or 20 years, the passing of time is no excuse to avoid responsibility," said Lau in a statement today.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) component party leader was responding to Dr Mahathir's claim that the government would use every trick to stop Pakatan Harapan winning GE14.

Among others, Dr Mahathir said BN are accusing the Opposition leader of committing crimes and using the Election Commission to manipulate electoral boundaries.

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman had also said that the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Bank Negara Malaysia's (BNM) foreign exchange trading scandal of the 1990s is merely a political ploy against him.

At the same time, Lau also dismissed Dr Mahathir's claim that the general election is rigged.

He pointed out that the Opposition would not have formed the state government in Kelantan, Penang and

Selangor if the general election was unfair.

He added that at the end of the day, no political parties would not aim to win in general election.

"As such, it is only normal for BN to do its best to win the general election, just as the Opposition would.

"In fact, BN are was merely exposing the glaring weaknesses and faults of the Opposition," he said.
