PPBM delegates disappointed with Dr M's 'revenge-seeking' speech

SHAH ALAM: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's policy speech during Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (PPBM) inaugural annual general meeting today appears to have sparked dissatisfaction among some delegates.

PPBM Kuantan bureau information chief Mohd Hafiz Azizi Zainudin said it was clear that Dr Mahathir's policy speech was about revenge aimed at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

He believed that, as it was PPBM's maiden AGM, Dr Mahathir should have delivered a mandate that revolved around the party's struggles, not one that centred on his personal agenda to topple Najib, who is also Umno president.

"In his speech, Dr Mahathir repeatedly said he wants to bring Najib down. Now it seems like the setting up of this party was to seek revenge against Najib on behalf Dr Mahathir, who feels that Najib wants to destroy Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir (PPBM deputy president)," said Hafiz.

Hafiz said members want PPBM to fight for the interest of the Malays. He expressed disappointment that the issue was not raised, and said this clearly indicated that the party was directionless in that aspect.

"It's all in vain. The party's struggles are merely only for personal agenda and revenge," he added.

PPBM Kuantan Youth chief Mohd Asyraf Mohamad Asri also expressed regret that they were not given the chance to raise questions concerning the party's leadership.

He said it was akin to having the voices of the youth muffled, with no concept of democracy in the party.

"It is regrettable that there was no question and answer session in this AGM. The youth have their own views too but we were stopped from airing it," he said.

In his policy speech this morning, Dr Mahathir had said that the reason PPBM was set up was to topple Najib, Umno and Barisan Nasional.
