Double preemption unsettles Dr M, says Umno Youth vice-chief

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno vice-chief Senator Khairul Azwan Harun has dared Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to reveal the plans made to remove Datuk Seri Najib Razak as prime minister.

In response to Dr Mahathir’s criticism on Umno Youth’s police report against him for allegedly instigating Malaysians to topple the government through undemocratic means, Khairul Azwan also said the former prime minister was perturbed following a preemptive move to shatter a similar plan last year.

Yesterday, Dr Mahathir described Khairul Azwan as a “stupid boy who doesn’t understand politics”.

“Dr Mahathir is frustrated with me because I preempted his move on July 2016, and here again Umno Youth preempted his move in January 2018.

“I dare Dr Mahathir to reveal to the police all that he has done and planned to do to bring down the prime minister. Let the authorities decide whether his actions are legal or illegal.

“Dr Mahathir is clearly unsettled after calling me out derogatorily,” Khairul Azwan said in a statement today.

On July 26 last year, Khairul Azwan lodged a police report against three individuals over an alleged conspiracy to topple Najib.

Khairul Azwan said Najib was a democratically-elected prime minister and Dr Mahathir had no locus standi to remove him from the post.

“The prime minister is elected by the people of Malaysia. Who is Dr Mahathir to think that he has the right to overthrow the prime minister? It is clear that Dr Mahathir has a personal agenda to make (his son PPBM vice-president Datuk Seri) Mukhriz Mahathir the deputy prime minister.

“At least, I am not Mukhriz, whose political future relies on his father.”
