MCA names vice-president Lee Chee Leong as Kampar's candidate for GE14

KAMPAR: MCA today announced its vice-president Datuk Lee Chee Leong will be Kampar parliamentary constituency’s candidate for the upcoming 14th General Elections (GE).

President Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, in making the announcement, said the division chief Chang Gwo Chyang would be fielded as the candidate for the Malim Nawar state seat and division secretary Daniel Wa as the candidate for Keranji.

Liow said with Lee’s candidacy, MCA is confident that it would be able to wrest Kampar back from DAP.

Lee was previously Kampar MP, and Malim Nawar (three terms) and Tanjung Tualang assemblyman (one term).

"We need leaders like Lee who are highly committed to serving the people. I have full confidence in his capability," said Liow, adding that Lee is known as someone who delivers more than he talks.

Liow also expressed his confidence on Chang and Wa, saying that the duo was capable of bringing surprises in the coming GE.

"Gwo Chyang (Chang) is a true blue Kampar boy who understands the needs and issues in the area, while Daniel (Wa) is a dedicated young man who is eager to help the people here.

"Let us unite and give full support to our candidates and give them the mandate to fight for the community in the constituency," he said during a luncheon with non- governmental organisations here.

In a press conference later, Liow said Perak MCA has prepared a development plan for Kampar under the leadership of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.

"Lee's candidacy in Kampar parliamentary constituency will determine the future of the people here with transformational agenda on the cards, including those involving the new village, agro-tourism and education centre," said Liow, who is also Transport Minister.

In the 13th GE, Lee, who contested for Kampar constituency, lost to DAP Ko Chung Sen with a majority of 5,400 votes.

In the Keranji state constituency, DAP Chen Fook Chye defeated Wa with a 5,561 majority, and Chang lost to DAP Leong Cheok Kheng (Malim Nawar) with a majority of 4,343 votes.
