Mahfuz will not be apologising

KANGAR: Pokok Sena member of parliament Datuk Mahfuz Omar has declined to apologise for a statement that he made on the health of Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah.

Mahfuz claimed that he was not insulting the Sultan of Pahang when he mentioned the ruler’s health during a talk but that he had also prayed for the ruler’s good health.

“In my speech I said Umno’s action in questioning the nomination of Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is akin to criticising the credibility of the Sultan of Pahang, who has long ruled the state,” he said when met at Kampung Syed Omar, Bintong here today.

He added that his speech could be viewed on Youtube.

Pahang Umno Youth in a statement today has demanded for Mahfuz to make an open apology to Sultan Ahmad Shah for his shallow and unacceptable speech made during a political talk recently.

In a statement issued today, Pahang Umno Youth chief Mohd Shahar Abdullah said that Mahfuz’s action of belittling and insulting Sultan Ahmad Shah symbolises the opposition leaders’ insolence and shallow-mindedness that are not respectful of the country’s royal institution.

Mahfuz said he stand firmly by his statement and believes that that there is no need for him to make any apology to anyone.
