Pahang BN to field likeable candidates in GE14

BENTONG: Pahang Barisan Nasional (BN) has identified likeable candidates who will be fielded in the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14).

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said the complete list of possible candidates to contest the 14 parliamentary and 42 state seats has been submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is also the BN chairman and Umno president.

Adnan, who is the state BN chairman, said this time, the list consists of candidates favoured by the people.

"We cannot name candidates who we prefer but we need to pick candidates liked by the people. This is not only for candidates from Umno but all BN component parties as well.

"The candidates will be a mix of new and old faces who could guarantee victory for BN. The Prime Minister will decide on the final list based on his criteria and assessment," he told reporters after presenting the Bantuan Anak Pahang aid from Yayasan Pahang to 1,000 pupils from the Pelangai constituency here today.

Adnan said there will be no seat-swapping involving traditional seats among BN component parties for GE14.

"For example, MIC will continue to contest the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat despite the constituency being a Malay majority. All BN component parties have to work hard to ensure the party's candidates will emerge victorious," he said.

Meanwhile, Adnan also refuted claims about Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah, being ill. He stressed that the ruler is fine and resting.

"Checks by the doctors have shown that Sultan of Pahang is in good health. The Sultan's age is the reason he looks a little weak but he can still walk," he said.
