'PBS members must focus on achieving party's goals'

RANAU: Parti Bersatu Sabah members have been advised to be wise and focus on ensuring the party’s struggles and objectives are met.

Its president, Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, said the strategy was to strengthen the party’s machinery and prepare to face challenges in the election.

“The party has gone through bittersweet memories since its formation three decades ago.

“But, I am proud that we continue to focus on our struggles and defend the rights of Sabah and the people,” he said during the launch of the party’s three-day election preparatory workshop here recently.

He said it was vital to preserve the existing rapport with other Barisan Nasional component parties to ensure a handsome victory for the coalition in the polls.

“Although the party has laid a strong foundation over the years, there is no room for members and leaders to be complacent.

“Instead, we should continue the hard work and ensure the people, especially the younger generation, understand the party’s core struggles and missions.

“Party leaders and members must never slack off (on the party’s struggles). We must strengthen unity to overcome challenges, including influences from other (political) parties that try to make us leave the coalition.”

He said the party would have to work hard to defend its 18 seats and recapture lost seats.
