Umno, MCA to jointly run eight polling centres in Indera Mahkota

KUANTAN: Eight Indera Mahkota Parliamentary district polling centres (PDM) will henceforth be jointly-managed by Umno and MCA.

Indera Mahkota Umno division chief Datuk Indera Mustaffar Kamal Abdul Hamid said the decision was made in a meeting involving all Indera Mahkota Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders last week.

"Last week's meeting went smoothly and all BN component party leaders in Indera Mahkota (responded positively to the move).

"We also agreed to appoint Umno representatives to be at the eight PDMs which were previously headed by MCA leaders.

"The final decision (to appoint Umno representatives) was also well received by all. We will decide on the representatives at this Monday’s (Jan 22) meeting," Mustaffar Kamal said.

He was speaking to the media after the closing ceremony of the Touch Point Cabinet Away Politeknik Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (Polisas) 2017 event at Kampung Balok Baru here on Saturday.

Also present were Polisas director Norlida Abd Razak and Kampung Balok Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) chairman Mansor Mokhtar.

The programme – a joint effort between Polisas, the Prime Minister's Office's Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU), and the Higher Education Ministry – focuses on creating positive social impact via students sharing their expertise and experiences.

Around 56 residents from the Kuantan and Indera Mahkota Parliamentary constituencies have been involved in the two-phase programme which began last year.

Mustaffar Kamal also said that training will be given to those tasked with looking after the Indera Mahkota PDMs starting next month.
