KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak called on Puteri Barisan Nasional Friends Network to appreciate the spirit of the Azalea flower which brings together all component wings in solidarity under a common banner.
In launching Azalea 2018, the youth movement's united front to galvanise support for BN ahead of the general elections, Najib said the name Azalea was derived from the unique species of flower as a sign of majestic beauty and grace.
"It also symbolises the unity, as there are more than 10,000 variations of this flower which all come under one name - Azalea.
"The same goes for the Puteri BN, which come from various components and from all sorts of background, but are united under one banner towards a common goal," said Najib.
Speaking in front of a crowd of more than 10,000 members of BN component women's youth wings and supporting NGOs, he called for the Puteri networks to work together under one banner.
"You should all embrace the spirit and work together as a team, not in silos. It should be an enjoyable experience and when you are enjoying yourselves this heavy task does not become a burden and it becomes less stressful," said Najib, at Panggung Anniversari in Tasik Perdana.
Also present were the Prime Minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Umno vice president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and Puteri Umno chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.
Mas Ermieyati said Azalea 2018 would see the movement working in sync towards the common goal of ensuring victory for BN in the coming general elections.
"There are many areas which need to be addressed with proper strategies, which is why since the beginning we have always engaged with all Puteri wings of BN component parties.
"Under Azalea 2018 all these efforts will be further synergised as we show the people that this is a party that is in unity and has a plan, not like the opposition packed which is just power crazy and in dissaray," said Mas Ermieyati.
