CEC validation might not be enough for Pakatan Harapan

GEORGE TOWN: Even though the Registrar of Societies (RoS) has validated that the DAP central executive committee (CEC) re-election as being valid, it may not be enough for Pakatan Harapan to be registered as a pact.

Former DAP member Rahmad Ishak said that the RoS certification only saved DAP from being ‘punished’ in the 14th General Election (GE14).

He said that DAP should be thankful to the government for giving it a new lifeline to the party as it could have been deregistered by the RoS.

“We respect the decision by RoS which approved the party’s CEC re-election.

“However the validation still does not signal a ‘green light’ for Pakatan Harapan to contest under one logo and this will be a slap to them, especially the party leaders, who had been going against themselves lately,” he said when contacted today.

RoS in a statement said that the DAP CEC re-election on Nov 12 had fulfilled the stipulated conditions.

It said that international audit firm Grant Thornton, which was assigned by DAP, had submitted the full report of the DAP’s CEC re-election through a letter datedNov 27.

It will release an official statement on the matter this Monday.

Meanwhile, former DAP Bagan Luar branch chairman G. Asoghan said that he would re-evaluate the RoS decision with the party members who had been let down by the latest decision.

“We have yet to decide whether to bring the matter to court or not. We will wait,” he said without elaborating further.

RoS said it had received 17 complaints on DAP’s CEC re-election since Nov 28.

The complaints were from Selangor, Penang and Negri Sembilan.
