Manifestos should be realistic, not populist, says Ku Nan [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA: A political party’s manifesto should be realistic and not populist in nature, as it forms a promise to the voters which must be fulfilled, says Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

Commenting on Pakatan Harapan’s recently-unveiled manifesto, he said the opposition should ‘walk the talk’ when making promises to the people.

“A manifesto, he said, is a promise made to the public, but if the opposition openly says that it isn’t (a promise), then it becomes a problem.

"Whatever that was announced by Pakatan Harapan (PH) is only populist in nature. They are out to seek popularity, they should walk the talk.

"To me, they are just trying to fool the people again because in the previous general elections, they had deceived the people. They failed to fulfil their own manifesto," he said.

He was speaking at a press conference after launching the 2018 Women’s Cycling Convoy event in conjunction with International Women's Day in Dataran Putrajaya, here today.

About 10,000 participants participated in the convoy, which was organised by the Federal Territories Ministry and Badan Amal Kasih Ibu Wilayah Persekutuan, in cooperation with Putrajaya Corporation, Urban Wellbeing Foundation and the Putrajaya Umno Sports Bureau.

Tengku Adnan, who is also Federal Territories Minister, said the manifesto announced by PH was nothing new as it has already been implemented by the BN government.

"They are just recycling what we (BN government) have been doing.

"I am confident that people will not be fooled by them (the opposition) this time," he said.

On Thursday, PH launched its 200-page manifesto at the Ideal Convention Centre in Shah Alam. It will centre on the five pillars and 60 promises to be fulfilled in five years under the PH-led government, should they win the upcoming 14th General Election.
