Come clean on relationship with 'Datuk Seri' businessman: Penang Gerakan to Guan Eng

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Gerakan today urged Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to explain his relationship with a businessman with a 'Datuk Seri' title, currently under probe over an alleged graft involving the Penang undersea tunnel project.

State Gerakan Youth acting chief Jason Loo said this was after a photograph, showing two individuals, believed to be Lim and the businessman, had gone viral on social media since yesterday.

As such, he said Lim should come clean on the matter.

“We want to know if the two individuals are really Lim and the said businessman. How long have they known each other?

“What is their relationship? When was the photo taken?” he told a press conference today.

Yesterday, a photo of the two individuals went viral. It was believed to be taken inside the businessman’s home.

Meanwhile, state Gerakan vice-chairman Lee Boon Ten criticised the Penang government for maintaining Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd (CZC) as the tunnel project's main construction company, despite being plague by controversies.

“The people need to know the state government’s justification in maintaining CZC as the main construction company,” he said.

Meanwhile, in a separate press conference, Lim refused to entertain questions related to the tunnel project.

The tunnel project had raised numerous controversies in recent months, especially on the high cost of the RM305 million feasibility studies as well as the 22-month delay in completing it.

It is now a subject of investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
