Anyone can contest here, says Sepanggar Umno

KOTA KINABALU: Sepanggar Umno will accept any decision made by Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership on the rightful candidate to be fielded at the area.

This was following rumours that Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan, who is currently Kota Belud Member of Parliament, will contest in the Sepanggar constituency.

Its division acting chief Datuk Yakub Khan said the priority for BN is to defend Sepanggar parliamentarty seat and Karambunai state seat, as well as to get back the Inanam state seat from the opposition.

“There's no decision or announcement made yet (on the candidates for the said constituencies).

“Once they are announced, we will give our full support and assist them to ensure victory for the party,” he said, when contacted.

Yakub, who is also BN Sepanggar chairman, added that good cooperation among BN component parties will be the best formula to ensure BN's success.

He said there is also a good chance for BN to win back Inanam seat.

"It will not be a problem for BN to take back Inanam seat especially when there is good cooperation among the component parties,” he said.

The incumbent Sepanggar MP is Datuk Jumat Idris, whose Umno membership was suspended in the past (in 2015), while Sabah Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Jainab Ahmad Ayid is the Karambunai assemblyman.

Meanwhile, Dr Roland Chia won Inanam seat on PKR ticket during 13th General Election against BN's candidate Joseph Paulus Lantip from Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS).
