'BN enjoys support of conservative Malays'

ALOR STAR: Pakatan Harapan (PH) admits that Barisan Nasional in Kedah has the advantage among conservative Malay voters in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Kedah Parti Amanah Negara chairman Datuk Dr Ismail Salleh said the winner in the GE14 “battle” would be determined by Malay voters.

“Who wins and who loses will be decided by Malay voters...

“In the last general election, Umno won 56 per cent of Malay votes while the opposition received 44 per cent.

“This is why the battle will be between PH and BN, while Pas’ role is to split the votes since it (Pas) will not win,” he said.

State PKR chairman Dr Azman Ismail shared the same sentiments, describing conservative Malay voters as BN’s “weapon”.

He added that PH needed to depend on former prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, to get the votes.

“The challenge in Kedah is conservative Malays siding with BN.

“That is why we have to rely on Dr Mahathir,” he said.

State DAP chairman Tan Kok Yew said the fact that PH was facing a “giant party” was a challenge.
