Opposition Pact to unveil common logo for GE14 on Friday

KUALA LUMPUR: The opposition pact parties comprising, PKR, DAP, Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) will likely use a common logo in the 14th General Election (GE14).

The DAP today said it’s candidates will not contest under the well known Rocket symbol which has been the party’s trademark since the 1969 general election.

“We had met and decided to use a common logo. This is not an easy decision for the party but the DAP agrees to use a common logo,” said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

In a press conference at Parliament lobby on Thursday, Lim however said the change will only be for peninsula in the polls and the four parties will not use the common Pakatan Harapan logo in Sabah and Sarawak for GE14 election campaign.

“They’re different because they have autonomy. So we respect this and they can use the DAP rocket logo,” he said.

Lim said the common logo will be announced by Pakatan Harapan Chairman, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Friday.

“We cannot deny the impact. But it’s important for us to have one-to-one fights with Barisan Nasional,” Lim said.

On Thursday, Dr Mahathir had reportedly said that the opposition pact parties had already decided on what logo they will be using for the polls.

Pakatan Harapan cannot use its official logo to contest in the polls because the Registrar of Societies (RoS) has refused to register it as a formal coalition. This was due to investigations into PPBM’s failure to adhere to stipulated procedures when registering itself as a political party.

On Thursday, the Registrar of Societies (RoS) slapped PPBM with a provisional dissolution.

The RoS said the party has been dissolved under Section 14(5) of the Societies Act 1966 for failing to submit information and documents pertaining to the minutes of branch meetings, divisions and centres, as well as party financial statements to them.

The de-registration will become permanent if the party fails to comply with the RoS request within 30 days.
