EC confirms receipt of Parliament dissolution notice [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission (EC) has confirmed that it received the official notice from the Dewan Rakyat Speaker yesterday on the dissolution of Parliament, effective today.

EC chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah said the commission had also received official notices on the dissolution of state assemblies from Perlis, Melaka, Negri Sembilan and Johor.

Hashim said the EC will only hold its special meeting to set key dates for 14th General Election (GE14) after it receives notice of dissolution from other states.

"We heard that other states have dissolved their state assemblies, but we have not received the official notices yet.

"After receiving the official notice, only then we can set a special meeting to set key dates such as writ and notice of election; nomination day; early voting day; polling day; as well as other necessary preparations for GE14.

"The special meeting will be held at the EC headquarters here. We will set the date once we obtain official notices from all states," he told a press conference today.

He said that as of yesterday, there are 14,940,627 registered voters; 8,898 voting centres and 28,995 voting streams.
