Zahid issues rallying call to soldiers at Hutan Melintang Camp to vote wisely (NSTTV)

BAGAN DATUK: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi called on military personnel at the Hutan Melintang Camp to continue to support the Barisan Nasional (BN) government in the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14).

"I hope when Hari Raya (referring to GE14) comes, that day is important (for us) to decide on the fate of our camp.

"We must continue supporting the same government to enliven the Hutan Melintang Camp and make it as the best in the country," he said.

He said this in his speech during a family day celebration here at SMK Hutan Melintang.

Also present were Army Field Commander West Lt Gen Datuk Azizan Md Delin and Army Second Division commander Major-General Datuk Mohd Ramli Jaafar.

"The privilege of being a part of the Bagan Datuk people here should be rejoiced by the Hutan Melintang Camp too," he added.

A total of 1,700 officers from the Third Battalion Royal Artillery Regiment, Camp Kamunting and Camp 23 Royal Malay Regiment attended the event.

The newly built army camp for the Standard Infantry Battalion and the Royal Artillery Regiment was built on a 142ha site and has been operating since September 16, 2017 in stages.

The new army camp was in line with the government's aim to implement strategic focuses on defence and security matters. The camp will accommodate 5,000 army and personnel in stages.

Zahid who is also Bagan Datuk member of parliament also announced on the allocation of RM100,000 that would be donated to the Hutan Melintang Camp Welfare Regiment Fund.

During the event, Zahid also took part in several activities including tug-of-war.
