Govt has the funds to fulfil its manifesto: Zahid

BAGAN DATUK: The government has ample fund to fulfil its manifesto which was unveiled by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Saturday night, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the current government was not like other (the opposition) who only makes empty promises without means of implementation.

“We see the other manifesto (by the opposition) who claims they want to take over all the toll concessions which involves more than RM300 billion but they did not mention where the money will come from.

“When we come out with the manifesto, the government takes into account the national income, specifically Khazanah Nasional Bhd.

“When we tabled the budget last year, the government had assumed that the price of petrol would be at US$59 per barrel and now the price has gone up to US$69 per barrel. This shows that the national income will increase and with this, the government can carry out various programmes,” Zahid said Sunday.

He added when the Sales and Services Tax (SST) was replaced with the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the revenue earned was channelled back to the people.

Zahid who is also Bagan Datuk member of parliament said this during a press conference after a walkabout during the ‘Jualan Sentuhan Rakyat’ programme here, at Wisma UMNO Bagan Datuk in Kampung Parit 4, Sungai Sumun.

“Bank Negara Malaysia’s international reserves stood at over US$108 billion, which showed that the government is not bankrupt.

“How is it possible that the country is bankrupt if our reserves are increasing? How can the projects (mentioned in the BN manifesto) be carried out if the country’s financial management be fully implemented?

“This shows that the country’s financial management system and the achievements delivered by the BN government is something doable,” he said.
