Dr M being used by DAP to split Malay votes, claim observers

KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad contesting under the PKR banner in the 14th General Election (GE14) will only serve to split the Malay votes, directly benefiting DAP, say observers.

Federation of Malay Students Union (GPMS) president, Zambri Mohd Isa, said although the opposition pact have pledged to contest GE14 under the PKR logo, the move is engineered by DAP, who act as the ‘king-makers.’

“DAP is the mastermind behind all of Pakatan Harapan’s strategies. They are only using Dr Mahathir to achieve their own ends.

“The Malays must understand that Pakatan do not champion the rights of the Malays and the Bumiputera. DAP, on the other hand, are not interested in defending Malay rights as they have their own agenda.

“Dr Mahathir is their personal puppet,” he claimed.

Zambri also claimed that Dr Mahathir’s cause is not for the Malays and the party but for his own personal interests and his desire to see his son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, become prime minister.

He believed that the true purpose behind using the PKR logo is not divide the Malays, which will in turn benefit DAP.

“If PKR wins, the ones who benefit are DAP. They are the king-makers.

“Within PH, we do not see (temporarily de-registered) Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia at the forefront, it is DAP.

“PKR is a party which is subservient. In the end, who will defend the Malay rights? The Malays have to realise that there is no benefit in continuing to support PH,” he said.

His opinions were supported by Majlis Perundingan Melayu (MPM) secretary-general, Datuk Dr Hasan Mad, who sees this election as a fight between the Malay-based parties.

“It would appear as if the non-Malay parties such as DAP, is the one engineering the move to contest under a single logo,” he claimed.

Meanwhile, Datuk Mohamed Ibrahim, who is Malay Journalists and Writers Association (PPWPM) acting president, opined that DAP will continue to pit Malay parties against each other.

“The question now is, will the Malays and Malay-based parties realise that they are being played in this elaborate scheme?”
