Shahrizat says no to Bandar Tun Razak seat

KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita Umno Chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Jalil will not be contesting at the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat this coming 14th General Election (GE14).

This announcement was made by Shahrizat herself on her Facebook account this morning.

"Many have asked if I will accept the offer to contest at Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat. My answer is NO, although Bandar Tun Razak is an area where Barisan Nasional can win and defeat PKR," she wrote.

The rumour on her contesting at the urban seat surfaced last week when online portal MalaysiaKini quoted sources confirming Shahrizat's candidacy.

Bandar Tun Razak is traditionally an MCA seat although more than 50 percent of its voters are Malays.

Previously, Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos offered Shahrizat the Sungai Besar parliamentary seat.

However, the former Cabinet minister declined the offer as she felt there were other local figures with potential to be candidates in the constituency.
