KUALA LUMPUR: State Barisan Nasional (BN) chiefs are ready to announce candidates in their respective states for parliamentary and state seats in the 14th general election (GE-14).
This is in line with BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi saying that coalition chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak had empowered the respective BN chairman to announce candidates for their respective state parliamentary and state seats.
In GEORGE TOWN: Penang BN said it is expected to announce candidates for the parliamentary and state seats either Monday or Tuesday.
State BN chief Teng Chang Yeow said he was still awaiting further instruction from the top leadership on the candidate list submitted.
"Once we receive the green light from the top leadership, we will make the announcement.
"We are looking at either Monday or Tuesday next week," he told the NSTP when contacted.
Teng indicated that there may be 'last minute' changes in the candidate list but did not reveal details.
In KOTA KINABALU, Sabah BN candidates are expected to be revealed in the nearest time, with speculations as early as Sunday.
A Sabah BN source when contacted said the list is in the last process of being finalised, including possible seat swapping among component parties.
"However, the real date of announcement will be up to Sabah BN chairman Tan Sri Musa Aman who is also the state Chief Minister, as well as whether it will be done together or separately by the respective component parties," according to the source.
In ALOR STAR, Kedah BN also said it will wait for further instruction from the party headquarters on the announcement of its 51 candidates for GE14.
State coalition chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said the date to announce BN candidates for both parliamentary and state seats would be decided after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, approved the full list of candidates from the coalition.
"We will wait for Datuk Seri Najib to approve the full list and further instruction from the headquarters because as for now the full candidates list is yet to be finalised.
"Once we received the nomination credential, we will decide on the date to announce the candidates list," he told reporters after attending a gathering with KEMAS staff at the official Menteri Besar residence here today.
In KUCHING, Sarawak BN chairman, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Abang Openg said they will discuss with Zahid before deciding on the date to announce the candidates.
In MELAKA, BN state chief Datuk Seri Idris Haron, said they are waiting for further instruction from the party headquarters to announce their GE14 candidates.
“I am of their view that we should follow the tradition and convention which has the appropriate element of effectiveness,” he said.
In KUANTAN, a source said the list of Pahang BN candidates will be revealed next week by state BN chief and Pahang Menteri Besar DatukSeri Adnan Yaakob.
