Pas to contest 36 state seats in Kedah, 14 parliamentary seats; Ikatan to contest in Langkawi

ALOR STAR: Pas will contest in all 36 state seats in Kedah to achieve its mission to wrest the state from Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 14th General Election (GE14).

The Islamic party is also contesting in 14 parliamentary seats in Kedah, except for Langkawi which will be contested by Parti Ikatan, its partner in the Gagasan Sejahtera pact.

The candidates were announced by Kedah Pas commissioner Dr Ahmad Fakhruddin Fakhrurraz at its state headquarters in Kota Sarang Semut here.

Fakhruddin, who is contesting for the Pengkalan Kundor state seat, said 70 per cent of the candidates, 32 men and 14 women, are new faces.

Former national player and Kedah football legend Radhi Mat Din has been announced to stand as the party candidate for Pokok Sena parliamentary seat.

He is expected to battle out in a three-cornered fight with BN candidate and also former Pas vice-president Datuk Mahfuz Omar who is defending the seat under Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) ticket.

Three Pas state seats incumbents Wan Romani Wan Salim (Bukit Pinang), Datuk Siti Aisyah Ghazali (Merbau Pulas) and Mohd Azam Abd Samat (Sungai Limau) were retained to defend their respective seat.

Former Pendang member of Parliament Datuk Dr Mohd Hayati Othman will be contesting for Tokai state seat to replace incumbent Datuk Mohamed Taulan Rasul who was not re-nominated due to health reasons.
