Kelantan cops urge political party supporters to respect law during GE14

KOTA BARU: Kelantan police have advised political party workers and supporters to respect the law and refrain from committing wrongdoing in the run-up to the 14th general election (GE14).

Its chief, Datuk Hasanuddin Hassan, said all district police chiefs have been briefed on activities that “can and cannot” take place before and after GE14.

“(Following that meeting), district police chiefs called all community leaders in the state and briefed them on the (list of illegal activities).

“Police will not hesitate to take action against (those) found breaching the law (during the election period),” he told NSTP when contacted today.

Hasanuddin said police will be monitoring districts closely from time to time to prevent any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, a survey by NSTP today revealed that party workers and supporters here have begun setting up party posters, flags and banners on billboards – even though official announcements on election candidates have yet to be made.

Workers of various parties such as Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pas have been spotted decorating billboards with party paraphernalia since last week.

Besides party flags and banners, the workers – who are mostly teenagers – are also using bamboo sticks to decorate billboards.

Areas in Tumpat, Pasir Mas and the town area were also found to have party paraphernalia set up along the road shoulders.

The Election Commission (EC) announced April 28 as nomination day for GE14, with polling day falling on May 9.
