DAP's plan to destroy MCA has backfired, says Liow

JOHOR BARU: DAP’s ambitious plan to “annihilate” MCA has backfired as the opposition party’s propaganda has failed to win over the Chinese.

MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the community was not amused by DAP’s antics and many felt that the party had overstepped the bounds.

“MCA still has the support of the Chinese community and many feel that the political attack which DAP started is an act of extreme arrogance and too much,” he said.

However, Liow said, DAP’s strategy had not done any damage to MCA and seemed to be backfiring.

He said there was insubordination among DAP leaders who did not see eye to eye with party adviser Lim Kit Siang.

“The latest would be Dr Boo Cheng Hau who did not heed Lim’s plan for him to leave Skudai for the Labis state seat,” said Liow.

Labis was offered to DAP leaders such as Kulai member of parliament Teo Nie Ching and Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo but both declined to contest the constituency.

Liow said Lim was at a loss because his plans were not unfolding as expected.

“His arrogance and self-absorption in taking over Johor has made him go against his own principles. He wanted to oust Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad but now glorifies him to the point where he lets DAP use the logo of another party for the 14th general election,” he said.

Liow said DAP’s problems were due to the incompatible relationships within Pakatan Harapan, which were not based on unity and honesty.

“On the surface, yes, they show consensus but there is no unity,” he said, unlike MCA and other Barisan Nasional component parties which had long enjoyed unity and loyalty to one another.

“Thanks to the strong bonds between MCA and BN, I am confident that our candidates can win any seat in GE14.”
