Farmer from Pitas first non-Muslim to be Pas candidate for Kadamaian state seat

KOTA KINABALU: A man from Pitas has become the first non-Muslim to be fielded as Sabah Pas candidate in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Farmer Satail Mojungkat, 61, who is among the 24 candidates, will contest for Kadamaian state seat.

“It has been eight years since I joined the party, it is the value of leadership that attracted me to be a member. Although Pas is an Islamic party, it does not look at races.

“As this is my first time contesting, I will fight for people’s economy, ” he said after Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang announced the candidates lineup here.

Pitas state candidate Dausieh Queck@Paraman, 39, who made a comeback for second time, said although the party had lost during last election she would continue to campaign and serve the people.

The home tutor, who gave birth to her third child a day after the last election, said the party had contributed donations to three churches and helped three non-Muslims from Pitas to further their studies at higher learning institutes.

Meanwhile, Sabah Pas commissioner Mohd Aminuddin Aling, 56, who made a comeback for second time for Tuaran parliamentary seat, said this time the election scenario was about the same as his first in 1999 for Kota Belud seat.

“That time, Pas was on its own and this GE14 the party is on its own without any alliance.

“But with the machinery we have and support from the people, we are confident to win some seats,” he said, adding the lineup of new faces who were professionals could help to contribute victory to the party.
