BN stands better chance winning Kepong with Seng Giaw's absence: Ong

KUALA LUMPUR: It is not impossible to turn the tide against DAP in Kepong, Gerakan said today.

Ong Siang Liang, the Gerakan man nominated to stand in the urban seat said he is confident of breaking into the opposition stronghold, thanks to the absence of incumbent Dr. Tan Seng Giaw.

Dr. Tan, the eight-term Kepong MP, was dropped as a candidate by his party recently.

Ong said Dr. Tan’s replacement, Lim Lip Eng, is relatively unknown to Kepong voters despite having been elected as MP for two terms.

“These two factors have made DAP unpalatable to the electorate in Kepong and will give BN the edge.

“Despite the majority of over 40,000 in the last election, we have a realistic chance,” he told the New Straits Times.

Ong is one of the fresh faces among BN candidates who will be contesting in the 14th General Election (GE14) in the Federal Territories.

Born in Taiping and a lawyer by profession, Ong joined Gerakan in 1996.

He had been living in Kepong for the last 12 years, which brings him closer to the people in the constituency.

Among others, he has been giving free legal advice to Kepong folks.

The father of two pledges to improve the infrastructure of Kepong, especially in terms of roads and drainages, if elected.

Ong, who is also BN Federal Territories vice youth chief, had been working hard on the ground in the last two years.
