Hello, is Guan Eng from Penang?

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Barisan Nasional has slammed state DAP for using the issue of an “outsider” being fielded in a certain state seat in the 14th General Election.

The latest target was one of BN’s young candidate, Loo Jieh Sheng, who was fielded in the Pulau Tikus state seat.

DAP leaders had claimed that Loo was not a Pulau Tikus boy, and as such, not suited to be fielded there.

However, speaking at a ceramah at Kampung Tanjung Bungah here tonight before more than a 1,000 BN election machinery, state BN chairman Teng Chang Yeow said such an action was akin to “cutting off the nose to spite the face.”

He said there was also a DAP leader, contesting under the Pas logo here, who is not a local.

“I want to ask where DAP leader Lim Guan Eng came from? Is he a Penangite? Is he a local boy?

“I don’t have to tell you, as you all surely know where he came from right? Yes, he hails from Malacca,” he said to a loud cheer from the crowd.

Teng is BN’s candidate for the Tanjung Bungah state seat.

According to Teng, not only did Lim contest in two constituencies - for Bagan parliamentaries and Air Putih state seats - in the past and the current polls, he was also made the chief minister.

“This is like denying the capabilities of other state leaders from holding the post,” he added.

When met later, Loo said he was from Pantai Jerejak, which is part of Penang.

“I am no stranger to Pulau Tikus. In fact I have been active here in the last three years when the controversial Penang undersea tunnel issue first cropped up.

“The people also know me for outrightly championing various issues and scandal plaguing the state,” he added.
