KUALA LUMPUR: The Chinese community in Malaysia has had enough with political hate practiced by the opposition, said analysts and Chinese non-governmental organisations.

Pertubuhan Jaringan Rakyat Malaysia (PJRM) president Ng Lum Yong said Chinese voters slowly realised DAP’s actions had caused negative impacts on them.

“DAP always use foul languages during their talks. It is not in the Chinese culture to speak in such ways,” he told The New Straits Times (NSTP).

“For example, the controversial former DAP leader Hew Kuan Yau and DAP candidate for Teluk Intan Nga Kor Ming will speak in Hokkien or Cantonese and use words such as ‘Ham Ka Chan’ when condemning the prime minister which carry the meaning of ‘cursing the family and its entire generation to death’,” he added.

Ng believed that Chinese votes for BN would increase to 28 per cent this 14th General Election (GE14) compared to only 10 per cent in the last election.

He said MCA’s campaigns had been successful with encouraging numbers of Chinese people supporting their talks.

“So far we can see a positive progress especially when MCA organise its talks. The number of Chinese people turns up can easily reach up to 3,000 people. A huge difference compared to last general election,” he added.

Political analyst and veteran economist Professor Dr Hoo Ke Ping echoed Ng’s sentiment.

He said the Chinese community’s support towards BN had significantly increased over the past six months, reflected by huge turnouts by them for MCA’s programmes.

“The Chinese supported the opposition in the 12th General Election (GE12) due to economic downfall.

“But, when the economy recovered during the 13th General Election, they were still arrogant and refused to support the government.

“However, this time around, the Chinese community is back supporting BN especially after the launch of the BN Manifesto which is not only inclusive but also fair to all levels of the people.

“This is the best chance for BN to win back the hearts of Chinese voters,” Hoo said.

He said the Chinese Tsunami in the GE12 had already passed and now whatever that was left are only the ‘small waves’.

This could be seen in every ceremonial, banquet or event organised by MCA, which received thousands of Chinese guests.

Hoo said some issues involving DAP’s main leaders such as the controversy posed by Nga had caused the Chinese community to lose confidence in the opposition.

“Nga (Kor Ming) is a rude leader and only knows how to speak. Besides, he is also not aware of the current situation and is such a rowdy. The Chinese community will not choose such leaders who like to fight with their own people,” he said.

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia faculty of social sciences and humanities Associate Professor Dr Chang Peng Kee said Chinese voters were smarter now and they are tired with the antics of politicians especially those from the opposition.

“The Chinese are actually tired and fed up with politicians’ behaviour especially the opposition’s side at state governments.

“Before this, they were very much influenced by the fake news but now they are not blindly affected by the information they receive,” he said when contacted.

Chang said the opposition might still receive support from the hardcore Chinese, but the percentage had definitely declined.

“The opposition might still get the hardcore vote but clearly it won’t be as those days (it was 70 per cent).

“I am sure that Chinese voters have made up their minds on who to vote but they will not be very radical until they want to help with the campaigning and all. They will not show it very actively,” he said.

Chang also agreed that the Chinese community had been influenced by hate tactics practised by the DAP.

“They actually try to play up hate elements. For example, they say when you vote for BN candidate for Ayer Hitam Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong is just like you are voting for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak,

” he said.
