Hadi has good chance of winning defamation suit against Rewcastle-Brown

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has a good chance to win his defamation suit against Sarawak Report’s Clare Rewcastle-Brown as the London High Court has dismissed her statement of defence.

Hadi’s lawyer Wan Rohimi Wan Daud when contacted confirmed the latest development , stating it was a positive outcome.

“Chances for our party president to win this suit is big as the London High Court has dismissed her statement of defence and struck out 40 pages (of the document) yesterday.

“Thus there is a limited issue which she (Brown) can bring out during the defence trial,” he said.

Rohimi said the court also dismissed paragraph 25 and 26 of Brown’s “truth defence”.

It was reported that Brown has been ordered to pay 28,900 British pounds (RM155,790) to Hadi by the London High Court after the latter won all five interlocutory applications.

Hadi is suing Brown over an allegedly defamatory article titled ‘As Najib Denies All Over 1MDB, Let’s Not Forget His Many Other Criminal Connections – COMMENT’ published on Aug 6 last year, which plaintiff had claimed as being false.

The article purportedly alleges that Hadi had received bribes from Najib to the tune of RM90 million.

Hadi was represented by lawyers from the legal firm of Carter-Ruck and barrister Jacob Dean.
