Sibu BN candidate to woo urban voters

SIBU: Barisan Nasional (BN) is working hard to win the support of urban voters in the Sibu parliamentary seat.

Datuk Andrew Wong Kee Yew, who is BN candidate for Sibu, said the ruling coalition has a long-term plan to change the economic landscape within the parliamentary constituency.

He admitted it would be a challenging task to woo support from urban voters, who were with the opposition in the last general election.

"Nevertheless, BN has a more realistic plan, which will augur well with the aspiration of the people in Sibu.

"It is time for a change since the opposition has neglected the constituents here.

"Unlike the opposition, BN has a systematic work procedure, the resources, political will and capability to honour promises made to the people," he said.

Andrew said he would also pay the same attention to his supporters and people living in the rural areas within the constituency.

"BN is all for inclusivity. The welfare and wellbeing of the people including the rural folks will not be neglected in the state’s development agenda.

"Having that said, I am confident that rural folks will remain loyal and that they are BN’s strongest supporters," he said.

There are a total of 74,149 registered voters of which 62.75 per cent voters are Chinese in the Sibu parliamentary constituency.

Andrew is in a four-cornered contest in his bid to wrest Sibu from incumbent Oscar Ling Chai Yew of DAP, as well as Tiew Yew Hiong of Sarawak Peace Party and Ting Ing Tung of State Reform Party.
