Abang Johari wants Sibu to prosper

SIBU: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Abang Openg has announced a RM132 allocation during his two-day visit here since yesterday.

A major portion of the allocation, which is RM123 million, has been set aside to fund the construction of two road projects.

Abang Johari, who is also Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, said one of the projects is the construction of the first phase of Jalan Rantau Panjang/Rassau in Batang Igan costing RM63 million.

The other project, costing RM60 million, is the construction of a six-kilometre road from Sibujaya to Lanang.

“The construction of the road connecting Sibujaya and Lanang will reduce the travelling time for commuters between the two areas,” said Abang Johari in his speech to an applause from 4,000 people at a gathering in Sibujaya here today.

State Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Assistant State Education and Technological Research Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee and BN candidate for Lanang parliamentary seat Kelvin Kong Sien Chiu were present.

Abang Johari said a new fire and rescue station and a school would also be built in Sibujaya following the increase in population there.

The chief minister had previously announced a RM3 million allocation to develop a sewage system in Taman Rejang and another RM3 million to upgrade the iconic Sibu Central Market.

He had also announced allocation to build a new academic block for SJKC Kiew Nang, Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s innovation hub and grant to repair premise belonging to Sibu Association.

Abang Johari had set aside RM1 million for each of the three projects.
