Teng hits out at Lim for claiming that there is no illegally cleared hill in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Teng Chang Yeow has hit out at Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng who claimed that there is no hill that was illegally cleared in the state.

Teng referred to the infamous ‘Botak Hill’, also known as Bukit Relau, as a prime example on a large portion of land at the tip of the hill which was cleared under the adminisration of the DAP-led state government.

Clear proof still exist until today and Lim is ignorant saying in a recent speech that there is no bald hill in the state.

He was also quoted as saying : “Show proof, do not simply talk.”

“There is something really wrong with his eyes. Does he need a pair of reading glasses? Do not tell us that you have not heard of Penang people talking about Botak Hill,” he said in a press conference today.

The issue of Botak Hill started to surface when a football-field sized portion (0.8ha) of Bukit Relau facing the Penang Bridge was cleared between February and May 2013.

Until today, the hill appears to be “bald” despite works to replant trees at the area had taken place over the years.

The bald patch can be clearly seen especially for those who travel from the mainland headed towards the island using the Penang Bridge.

Teng said that he will hold a visit at about 12.30pm tomorrow at the Botak Hill side and said he will invite Lim himself to come and have a look at the situation.

He said he will post the invitation to Lim on his Facebook page and also tag the location and Google image of Bukit Relau.

“It is only a visit and we will not have any debate there.

“So, I humbly invite the caretaker Chief Minister to join us for the visit,” he added.
