Only BN has political will to develop Sarawak

BINTANGOR: Only Barisan Nasional (BN) has the political will, capability and resources to propel development in Sarawak and improve its people’s livelihood, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Abang Openg said.

Abang Johari said politics is a platform for the coalition to develop the state, and not a tool to create hatred and tension among the people.

Politics fuelled by hatred will not bring any benefit to the state and will only disunite the community, he added.

“We are capitalising on politics to ensure that the rakyat will continue to benefit from the state’s development agenda.

“We are also committed to restoring the rights of the state in accordance with the law in our bid to stimulate economic growth of Sarawak,” he said at a gathering on Thursday.

Present were Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii and Yusuf Abd Wahab, who are BN candidates for the Sarikei and Tanjung Manis parliamentary seats respectively.

Abang Johari, who is also Sarawak BN chairman, advised the people from following the action of certain quarters who practice “unhealthy political culture.”

“The people in Sarawak needs politics to look after their rights and welfare, which is a top priority for the BN-led state government.

“We do not want to follow the culture adopted by certain quarters, which always bicker among each other. The people in Sarawak have our own culture and we should be proud of it.

“The Chinese, the Malays, the Ibans and other races have been living in a peace and harmony as one big happy family,” he said.

Abang Johari also announced a RM5.4 million in allocation for several people-centric projects in the areas.

The projects included the construction of five kilometre-long road in Mupongand a surau in Taman Bintang costing RM5 million and RM450,000 respectively.

“We are also planning to develop an agro-park in Sungai Sian to boost the agricultural sector there,” he said.
