Neelofa, the icebreaker for BN Chempaka candidate

KOTA BARU: Neelofa Mohd Noor’s popularity has given Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Chempaka state seat, Mohamed Fareez Noor Amran, the upper hand during his campaign trail.

Fareez, who is a newcomer, said his cousin’s popularity would be the icebreaker each time he visited the people.

“They have asked me if it is true that Neelofa is my cousin and this has become a bonus for me.

“They have also asked if Neelofa will be campaigning for me. Actually, I have not discussed this with her because I can understand that as a well-known celebrity, she has her own set of followers from diverse backgrounds.

“In fact, I don’t expect her to do so out of respect of her position, however, I do hope my family members can support me,” he said when met on Saturday.

Fareez added that the Chempaka state seat is a popular seat because he would be contesting against the late Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat’s son Nik Omar.

“I admit that Nik Omar is influential, but this will not discourage me and I will give my all to garner votes.”

He believes that BN has a chance to win the state seat because the people want to see a change in the 14th General Election.

The 35-year-old candidate will be in three-cornered fight with Nik Omar and Pas’s candidate Ahmad Fathan Mahmood @ Mohammad.
