PAS to form coalition government in Perak and Kedah?

IPOH: As at 4.30am this morning, no political parties in Perak can form the state government based on the outcome of the 14th General Election. Barisan Nasional (BN) won 27 seats, PKR (29) and PAS (3) out of the 59 seats contested in the state.

Following this, PAS is said to consider teaming up with a political party to form a coalition government in the state. In fact, there were talks before GE14 that PAS would team up with Umno if BN did not have sufficient seats to form the state government.

Sources told NSTP however the PAS Perak is waiting for the directive from the party’s central leadership, which was having its meeting in Kuala Lumpur, on the possibility of forming a coalition government.

He said the discussion is not only on Perak’s situation but also Kedah, which is facing the same predicament.

“We are waiting for the outcome of their discussion, which is currently ongoing. The discussion is to ascertain whether we (PAS Perak) will team up with the other parties. We would certainly want to know which party would be least harmful to us and at the same time benefit the party, members and people, " he said when contacted in the early morning.

He said while PAS sees itself as the ‘king maker’, it certainly did not think that BN would lose in the election.

BN state chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir is expected to hold a press conference on the coalition’s position and the state government today. This was announced by the communications head of the Menteri Besar’s office, Nizam Isa, to the media at the Menteri Besar’s official residence here.
