Penang BN chief to quit politics following huge GE14 loss

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Teng Chang Yeow has decided to call it quits from politics, following the huge loss suffered by the coalition in the 14th General Election (GE14).

He said Wednesday’s election result was even worse than the previous general election held in 2013.

Teng said that a nationwide sentiment, a Malaysian tsunami, was the reason behind the loss.

“This will be my last press conference, I had decided to retire from politics. I will step down once the party (Gerkan) election is over, to be held sometime in July.

“My political career has come to an end,” he said today.

BN only managed to win two parliamentary and two state seats in Penang in GE14.
