PM confirms issuing travel ban for Najib, wife

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad confirmed that he issued a travel ban for Datuk Seri Najib Razak and wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

"We don’t want to be saddled with the issue of extradition (on Najib’s travel ban)," he said at a press conference held after chairing the Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting here, today.

He also said there was sufficient evidence for him to issue the order as 'there has been many complaints made against him (Najib) for abusing his powers and some are valid'.

Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir said he wants to carry out the investigation into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) as quickly as possible as it involves a lot of money, but notes the matter will take time as they have to be in contact with individuals as well as many foreign financial stakeholders and authorities.

Mahathir also said he has given the police directive to remove the Official Secrets Act (OSA) tag from the 1MDB report.

"Once declassified, the police will submit a report to me. At the moment, we don’t have an Attorney-General."--Report by By Manirajan Ramasamy, Arfa Yunus, Veena Babulal, Mohd Nasaruddin Parzi, Luqman Arif Abdul Karim and Mohd Fahmy Azril.
