KUALA LUMPUR: Former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has slammed the current Pakatan Harapan (PH) government for its inconsistency in stating facts.
He chided them for not truly fulfilling their promises, citing several examples.
"As the new government, surely they are being watched. We look at this for example, when they were declared as winners (of the 14th General Election), they said the price of fuel would drop, but until today it has not gone down," Ahmad Zahid was quoted as saying by Umno Online.
He also said that despite the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to be zero-rated, prices of goods are not going down.
"The prices of 90 items have gone up," Ahmad Zahid said.
"They also said the country's debt is RM1 trillion, but what is clear is that it is only RM686.8 billion. They said there were foreign borrowings but it is actually domestic debt which is loans within the country...meaning there is no foreign outflow of cash."
Speaking at a buka puasa event with Umno division information chiefs, Ahmad Zahid likened the new government to a local soybean delicacy called 'tempe'.
"Previously they said our economy was in crisis and the country is near bankrupt, but finally they said our economy is solid.
"In the day they will say something, in the evening they will say something else. Just like 'tempe'... in the morning it is still beans, in the evening it has become 'tempe', by tomorrow it would have gone bad," he said.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid called on all Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs to unite and be an effective Opposition in Parliament in order to fight slander and false accusations.
