KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil will not defend her Wanita Umno chief post in the coming party election.
Shahrizat said she respected the people’s desire for a change in Umno and she wanted to give way to a new face to lead the party women’s wing.
“Wanita Umno has many potential leaders who are experienced, young and energetic. I’m sure if they are given the opportunity to lead Wanita Umno, they will do a good job especially in serving the people,” she said in a statement Tuesday.
She said the decision was also announced at today’s exco meeting of the wing.
Shahrizat also called on all Wanita Umno members, especially at those the grassroots level to continue to be the backbone of the party.
She also thanked more than 1.3 million Wanita Umno members for the opportunity to lead the wing as well as the trust and loyalty towards her.—BERNAMA
